Subject: AIG Budgets
Because you all have not worked as long with AIG as all of us in Chicago, I am sending additional helpful hints and assistance about AIG budgets to all of you on the “Left Coast.”
Use fractions instead of decimals when preparing budgets with “C” codes and use the fractions in the lowest possible terms (e.g., 1/5 as opposed to 2/10). Enter all numbers (be they “C” or “L” codes”) as Roman numerals.
For any matters with Julie’s group, in addition to a life-of-matter budget, please prepare bi-weekly budgets every other Monday at 7:00 a.m. Eastern Time. If the actual amount billed either exceeds or falls short of the biweekly budget by $1,000, please submit a revised biweekly budget within two business days of the submission of the original biweekly budget.
For litigated and non-litigated matters, budget an extra hour for the time you will spend resending emails bounced back to you because you forgot about AIG’s 10MB limit. Feel free to contact me if you have any thoughts, comments, questions, or suggestions. Do not contact me to whine about how you don’t like preparing budgets and only became an attorney to avoid doing middle-school math. I just am not sympathetic to that since I have heard that all before.

Subject: RUSH CONFLICT CHECK
Our client has requested our assistance in reviewing coverage for a lawsuit against its insured [see above] for stealing candy from a coworker’s office. The complaint alleges the insured repeatedly entered his co-worker’s office on the pretense of making small talk, but with the true intent of taking large amounts of Nestle Crunch, Starbursts, M&M’S, and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups from the coworker’s candy bowl. The insurer initially denied coverage based on lack of an “occurrence” and intentional-conduct exclusions. However, the insured has pushed back, insisting that the claimant’s sugar addiction renders the conduct accidental and unintentional.
Please let me know if you are aware of any potential conflicts.
