Starr

The procedures below are the billing guidelines (“Billing Guidelines”) of Starr International Company, Inc. and C. V. Starr & Co., Inc. and their respective subsidiaries (collectively, “Starr”). Please review these billing guidelines carefully in advance of submitting billing statements prepared by your firm (the “Firm”). These Billing Guidelines apply to all work performed by your Firm for Starr.

Invoicing Procedures

All invoices, unless otherwise specified, shall be submitted via the Serengeti Tracker (“Serengeti”) and posted to the pre-assigned matter provided by the legal invoicing department of Starr ’ Office of the General Counsel. Prior to invoice submission, you must ensure that your Firm’s profile in Serengeti has the up-to-date following information:

  • The Firm’s administrative office address;
  • The Firm’s federal tax identification number (if applicable), or equivalent information; and
  • Wire Instructions.

Invoice Content

Invoices must be submitted in the legal industry standard Legal Electronic Data Exchange Standard (LEDES) 1998BI format, containing the following information:

  • Invoice date and invoice number;
  • The rate of the timekeeper performing the service;
  • The total cost of each time entry;
  • At least one charge line descriptive of the services provided;
  • The Starr responsible attorney requesting the work or project;
  • Itemization of disbursements;
  • A subtotal of all legal fees and disbursements, including clear identification of any discounts or adjustment, and the resulting invoice total; and
  • Task Codes (as discussed below).

Task Codes

Starr requires Uniform Task Based Management System (“UTBMS”) task codes on LEDES-formatted invoices that are submitted using Serengeti Firm. Time Entries Time entries should reflect actual time spent and must be rounded to the nearest tenth (0.1) of an hour.

Time entries for telephone conversations, conferences, meetings, and court conferences must specifically describe the parties involved and the subject matter or purpose of the task. Charges for preparing or reviewing correspondence should identify the subject matter, the author and the recipient(s) of the correspondence. Correspondence-related time entries that do not provide such information will not be reimbursed.
